Alt-Energy Grand Prix Inspires an "I Can" Attitude
Tessmer, Al; Trzeciak, Mark
Tech Directions, v69 n9 p16-18 Apr 2010
This article describes how a team comprised largely of high school students builds and races an E85-fueled car and takes first place at the Bowling Green (Ohio) State University (BGSU) Grand Prix. Free and open to the public, the event features student drivers and crews, racing go-karts powered by renewable, ethanol-based E85 fuel. The track is a one-fifth mile, six-turn road course at the "BGSU Intercollegiate Speedway" (also known as campus parking Lot N). The race runs for 75 laps, a distance of 15 miles. Its goals are to support a cleaner environment and energy independence, using racing to promote renewable energy, applying scientific principles and in-class learning. The race was a great experience for all students and instructors involved.
