In their requirements for Model and Master Classroom, Library, and School Certification, Renaissance Learning, the parent company of Accelerated Reader (AR), emphasizes the components for a successful reading program. Using Reading Renaissance requires emphasis on literacy throughout the entire school and makes the job of the school librarian a key leadership role. With the adoption of the Reading Renaissance principles of Accelerated Reader, students at Pittsburg Community Middle School (PCMS) have gone from not making Reading AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) to making Standard of Excellence in reading each year since 2007.
