Reflective Learning in Higher Education: Working with Experiential Data
Bourner, Tom
Higher Education Review, v43 n1 p21-37 Aut 2010
This article explores the nature of the experiential data used in reflective learning, reflective practice and ipsative research in higher education. Much of what has been written about experiential learning has focused on the nature of the reflective process. By contrast, this article explores the nature of the experiential data that underpins the reflective process. The main conclusion is that experiential data comprise sense-based data, affective data and cognitive data and that systematic attention to each of these strands can improve reflective learning, reflective practice and research based on reflective experience.
