Guidelines for Curriculum Development. Revised.

The curriculum development process explained in this booklet was first implemented at College of the Redwoods in May 1986 and then revised in June 1989. First, information on the college's Curriculum Committee is provided, indicating that the committee was formed to plan credit/non-credit courses; evaluate and approve additions, modifications, or deletions to the curriculum; and assist in the development and planning of the overall and long-range curriculum services of the college. Details are provided on the committee's membership, terms of office, function, procedures for completing and routing forms for course approval, timelines, restrictions, and policies. Attachments include the following forms, standards, and guidelines: (1) the Curriculum Proposal Form, with accompanying guidelines; (2) a credit course outline; (3) a form requesting course exemption from certain academic policies; (4) a noncredit course outline; (5) a checklist of standards and criteria for degree-applicable and nondegree-applicable credit courses; (6) standards and criteria for noncredit courses; (7) an approved taxonomy of programs; (8) guidelines for independent study courses; (9) guidelines for the substitution of associate of science degree requirements; and (10) a copy of the college's policy on course repeats.
