Youth in Recovery
de Miranda, John; Williams, Greg
Prevention Researcher, v18 n2 p16-19 2011
Young people are entering long-term recovery probably in greater numbers than ever before. A key word here is "probably" because we know precious little about the phenomenon of young people who recover from alcohol and drug addition. This article is a preliminary exploration of youth in recovery. It reviews several types of recovery support available to young people, including 12-step programs, recovery schools, and recovery-focused school programs. Then it discusses four types of recovery support services (emotional support, informational support, instrumental support, and companionship) which may help to produce significant outcomes. (Contains 2 footnotes.)
