Alinsky's Reveille: A Community-Organizing Model for Neighborhood-Based Literacy Project
Goldblatt, Eli
College English, v67 n3 p274 Jan 2005
A community-organizing model for neighborhood-based literacy project is presented, which is based on the works of Saul Alinsky, who was an influential community organizer during the period from 1930s to the 1960s. The model shows that it is possible to reframe the sites and texts of literacy instruction by having satisfying and reciprocating relationships with the neighbors and becoming a participant or knowledge activists instead of becoming an observer or a paid consultant.
