The planning and design of school buildings for South Africa are discussed in light of climatic factors and the effect of the weather on educational plants and classroom environment. Thermal and ventilation needs and requirements for school buildings are developed with regard to facility tests and research. The variables and problems of cooling and heating buildings are overviewed with lists of specific weather and thermal characteristics.
