Reading Skills in Three Orthographies: The Case of Trilingual Arabic-Hebrew-English-Speaking Arab Children.
Abu-Rabia, Salim; Siegel, Linda S.
Reading and Writing: An Interdisciplinary Journal, v16 n7 p611-34 Oct 2003
Finds a significant relationship between the acquisition of word and pseudoword reading skills, working memory, and syntactic awareness skills within and across the three languages among a group of Israeli-Arab students ages 14-15 years. Notes that trilingualism of this nature seems not to have negative consequences for the development of oral language and reading skills in the three languages in spite of their different orthographies.
