Qualitative Research: Emerging Opportunity in Business Education
Gaytan, Jorge
Delta Pi Epsilon Journal, v49 n2 p109-127 Spr-Sum 2007
The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine the research methods used in articles published in "The Delta Pi Epsilon Journal" and the "NABTE Review" between 2001 and 2005 to determine the extent to which qualitative research methodologies have been employed by researchers and the extent to which these research methodologies were clearly stated and supported by scientific research. Only 10% of manuscripts published in both journals were strictly qualitative, 32% clearly articulated the methodology used, and 21% supported methodology by using scientific research. The need for more qualitative research studies, published in both "The Delta Pi Epsilon Journal" and the "NABTE Review," is evident. Qualitative research can produce valuable, detail-oriented data through careful description of behaviors, events, situations, and interactions because it emphasizes processes that can be rigorously examined. In addition, qualitative research allows researchers to answer questions related to issues that cannot be addressed by quantitative methods. (Contains 5 tables.)
