Designed primarily for English faculty at community colleges in California, "Inside English" includes articles on instructional innovations in teaching remedial writing, literature courses, and freshman composition, and on major curricular, administrative, and employment issues in the field. The first issue of volume 15 focuses primarily on English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) instruction and includes the following feature articles: "The Puente Project: Building Confidence through Writing," by Walter Sherwood; "ESL and Freshman Comp: No Double Standard," by Karen Yoshihara; "ESL and the College Library: Creating an ESL Collection," by Alice Stiebel; "An Audience of One: The Writer's Voice and the International Student," by Philip Brady; and "An ESL Program: One College's Answer," by Alice Gosak. Issue number 2 deals largely with developmental writing instruction and contains the following: "Basic Writers as Writers: Crimson Rosellas and the Teaching of Writing," by Margie Whalen; "Somewhere between...English 100: Neither Fish nor Fowl," by Barbara Kerr Davis; "Murphy's Law in the Classroom: Community College Students Meet Grammar," by Patricia Peterson; and "Community College Teaching Methods: A Strategy for Basic and Developmental Writing," by Richard Hascal. Issue number 3 presents "The Computer as Equalizer: Computers in the Writing Class," by Ronald Hartwell; "The Interconnectedness of All Things: Interdisciplinary Studies and the Relevance of Writing," by Terre Ouwehand; "Computer Assistance: But Can It Tell a Joke?" by Richard Hascal; "Collaborative Composition: WOLM, 'The Tempest,' and English 1A," by Arnold Solkov; and "Community College ESL: What Should Be Its Mission?" by Kathleen Llanos.
