Perhaps more than any other academic discipline, physical education holds the highest potential for teaching affective skills. By its very nature, the typical physical education setting offers countless teachable moments and opportunities to capitalize on the development of affective skills. The seeming lack of attention given to affective development may be the result of many teacher preparation programs failing to adequately prepare future educators with strategies for teaching important affective skills. Many physical education teacher preparation programs focus predominately on psychomotor and cognitive development, but do not spend an adequate amount of time preparing for affective development. This article visits the idea of teaching through the affective domain. Several affective learning skills are discussed and coupled with tips for teaching these concepts in daily physical education class. (Contains 2 figures.)
