On Certain Aspects of the Problem of Adolescent Prostitution

Adolescent prostitution is a particular social phenomenon characterized by the fact that adolescents (those under the age of eighteen), either females or males, engage more than once (at least two times) in extramarital sexual relations with a large number of people for some particular (material) consideration owing to social, economic, psychological, and pedagogical factors. This article examines the adolescent prostitution in Russia. These prostitutes are divided into two categories: (1) Those who are "depraved," whose leanings toward prostitution was formed in the family; and (2) Those who are "casual," whose leanings toward prostitution were due to factors beyond their control. The article also cites the ways in which adolescents become involved in prostitution. These method include: (1) Through a newspaper ad; (2) Through the Internet; (3) Through modeling agencies; and (4) Taking part in filming pornographic movies. The article also shows how prostitution is a powerful factor that contributes to the development of organized crime.
