Prose Checklist: Strategies for Improving School-to-Home Written Communication
Nagro, Sarah A.
TEACHING Exceptional Children, v47 n5 p256-263 May-Jun 2015
Effective communication enhances school-family partnerships. Written communication is a common, efficient way of communicating with families, but potential barriers to effective communication include readability level, clarity of presentation, complexity of format, and structural components. The PROSE Checklist presented in this article can provide guidance to school personnel to improve school-to-home written communication. Using the approaches delineated in the PROSE Checklist, education personnel can communicate clearly, share important information effectively, maintain the intended message, and help parents of students with disabilities understand key information related to their children's educational experience.
