A Program Evaluation of ClassScape Used in 3rd Grade Classes in a Rural County in North Carolina

The research study will examine the impact of using the ClassScape program and targeted interventions on 3rd grade reading levels of performance. The conceptual and theoretical framework for the study suggests the need to connect formative, benchmark, and summative assessments in North Carolina. Furthermore, the review of the literature will explore formative assessments, online reading comprehension assessments, and the ClassScape program as an assessment tool. The data will be collected and results will be analyzed using a quantitative methods approach. The study will compare two classes of third grade students which will serve as a sample of the population. The results will come from summative data in the form of the End-of-Grade Reading Comprehension assessment. Additionally, a teacher survey will be used to determine the opinions of the teachers as they related to the training, the ease of use, along with the texts and questions on the assessments within the ClassScape program.
