This document aims to support graduate students who are in the process of preparing graduate theses or dissertations, and is organized according to the planning, research, and writing phases. The function of theses and dissertations is to provide students with experience in conducting and presenting research and to add to the body of knowledge in a given area. Sources of guidance for graduate research include advisors, supervising committees, fellow students, experts, and the available literature. Various methods of approaching literature reviews are discussed. The document addresses sources and types of research problems, research methodology, data collection techniques and data analysis. It also discusses the writing process and finding an audience for thesis/dissertation publication. An appendix presents an outline of a dissertation proposal. (HB)
