How Does the Family Rights and Privacy Act Affect You?
Toglia, Thomas V.
Education Digest: Essential Readings Condensed for Quick Review, v73 n2 p61-65 Oct 2007
Enacted in 1974 to oversee the privacy, discharge, and accuracy of educational records, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) has significant implications for teachers and administrators, who should stay informed regarding its current policies and practices, and when in doubt seek legal advice regarding the privacy and disclosure of students' educational records. In this article, the author provides an overview of this federal legislation and discusses several key components and guidelines for compliance.
