Life Insurance: Who Needs It? Teacher's Guide [and] Student Material
Turner, Elaine
A unit to acquaint secondary school students with the basics of life insurance is presented. The document contains student materials and a teacher's guide. Objectives are to evaluate the four basic types of life insurance (term, whole life, limited payment life, and endowment), compare prices of policies, recognize the difference between participating and non-participating insurance, discriminate between group and ordinary life insurance, and list basic considerations when deciding how much insurance should be purchased. The student booklet contains definitions, activities, and self-checks to reinforce taped lessons. Activities include examining a life insurance policy, surveying adults for the types of insurance they carry, making group presentations on the results of the survey, calculating savings on payments based on age, and analyzing insurance needs of persons described in case studies. The teacher's guide includes scripts for tapes, reproducible pre- and posttests with keys, and a sample insurance policy. (KC)
