Building Infant Mental Health Capacity through Consultation: Early Head Start's Approach
Boss, Jennifer; Mann, Tammy L.; Randolph, Suzanne
Zero to Three (J), v24 n6 p4-9 Jul 2004
This article describes the Pathways to Prevention (PTP) infant mental health initiative conducted by Early Head Start (EHS). The authors note that staff members who want to build their early childhood programs' capacity in infant mental health are often at a loss about how to do it. They suggest establishing an intensive, ongoing relationship with a professional who knows both infant mental health and program consultation. The PTP initiative was a year-long effort to build and sustain relationships between EHS programs and infant mental health consultants, implement reflective practices, enhance services, and build capacity to meet the mental health needs of children and families.
