Rafiroiu, Anca Codruta; Sargent, Roger G.; Parra-Medina, Deborah; Drane, Wanzer J.; Valois, Robert F.
American Journal of Health Behavior, v27 n1 p3-14 Jan-Feb 2003
Assessed the prevalence of dieting, investigating clusters of risk behaviors among adolescents. Data from the 1999 South Carolina Youth Risk Behavior Survey indicated that weight control behaviors related to several other important health behaviors. Differences existed between adolescents who used extreme weight loss measures and moderate dieters or non-dieters. Extreme dieters were more likely to use substances and to attempt suicide and less likely to practice vigorous exercise. (SM)
