Paraprofessionals in Infant/Family Practice.
Fenichel, Emily, Ed.
Zero to Three, v23 n2 Nov 2002
"Zero to Three is a single focus bulletin of the National Center for Infants, Toddlers, and Families providing insight from multiple disciplines on the development of infants, toddlers, and their families. Noting that sometimes practice needs to be "translated" into research, as with understanding the phenomenon of paraprofessional workers in infant/family service programs, this issue focuses on the complexity of paraprofessional practice in the infant/family field. The featured articles are as follows: (1) "The Professional Development of Paraprofessionals" (Sydney Hans and Jon Korfmacher); (2) "Becoming a Doula" (Erin F. Behnke and Sydney L. Hans); (3) "Benefits and Challenges of Paraprofessional Advocacy with Mothers Who Abuse Alcohol and Drugs and Their Children" (Therese Grant, Ann Streissguth, and Cara Ernst); (4) "The Helping Relationship in a Teen Parenting Program" (Jon Korfmacher and Isabela Marchi);(5) "The Chicago Health Connection's Teen Peer Leader Program: Helping Adolescent Mothers Tell the World about Breastfeeding" (Maryanne Locklin); and (6) "Extended Care: Family Child Care, Family Support, and Community Development in Low-Income Neighborhoods" (Juliet Bromer). Also included is a description of a therapeutic family child care project in rural, southern Illinois (Carol S. Klass). Regular departments in the bulletin list Zero to Three publications, videotapes and on-line resources, and Zero to Three staff announcements. (HTH)
