An Incubator for Better Outcomes: Innovation at work at Prince George's Community College
Boerner, Heather
Community College Journal, v86 n4 p18-23 Feb-Mar 2016
In this article, the author describes the college-school district collaboration called the "Academy of Health Sciences," an innovative approach to learning that located a high school on the college campus and gave students the opportunity to earn a college degree, too. The Academy of Health Sciences is just one of a slew of ideas that Charlene Dukes, president of Prince George's Community College (PGCC) in Maryland and her team have spearheaded to change the way students learn and faculty teach at the college. It's part of a vision Dukes has for all students--to move them from poverty and generational limitations to a wider world, where their skills are recognized and respected.
