The sourcebook contains background information, suggestions, and resources on teaching about developing countries at the elementary and secondary levels. The main objective is to provide guidelines for teachers. Among the approaches suggested and discussed are readings, classroom discussions, a Third World Week Conference and Other projects, classroom discussions, and the use of case studies, simulations, films, music, and art. The publication has 6 major sections: (1) background information on developing countries; (2) how trade, aid, population growth, health, food and agriculture, industrialization, education, attitudes and values fit in with development; (3) ideas and suggestions for teaching; (4) teaching about the Third World in geography, history, English, music, art, biology, and domestic science; (5) games, conferences, and speakers on development; and (6) materials for classroom use.
