Stories of Success: Latinas Redefining Cultural Capital
Gonzales, Leslie D.
Journal of Latinos and Education, v11 n2 p124-138 2012
In this essay, the stories of successful Latina scholars are captured and shared through a series of interviews. Inquiring about the k-20 experience of the Latinas, the study provides timely insights that counter mainstream deficit perspectives on the Latino population. Specifically, these Latinas' stories show how they have been inspired by cultural values, such as community, faith and compassion. Given the Latina population's rapid growth in the U.S., this work is timely as it aids in the broadening and redefining of cultural capital. (Contains 7 footnotes.)
