Enrollment Projections for Queensborough Community College: 1986-1989.
Cohen, Edward G.
Enrollment projections for Queensborough Community College (QCC) were developed using the cohort survival method to assist the college in more effectively planning for future academic and budgetary needs. In the face of a falling national population of young people in the 16 to 25 age bracket, demographic factors at work in Queens are expected to generally maintain the flow of high school graduates for at least the next 3 years, suggesting a stable enrollment pattern for QCC. Enrollment projections extrapolated from the actual numbers of students in Queens public high schools in grades 9-12 indicate that there will be no significant change in QCC headcount enrollment in 1986-87, and a slight increase of 2.1 % in 1987-88. It appears that during the period 1986-87 through 1988-89 QCC will experience a slight downturn in student enrollment followed by a slight upturn. The projections were based on the assumption that all the variables not considered in this study would remain fairly constant over the next 3 years. Changes in the employment picture, in educational policies affecting retention and graduation, and changing admissions and retention standards at QCC could affect the pool of college-bound people and total college enrollment. Actual and projected headcounts by degree program/curriculum and department are included. (Author/EJV)
