Fundreds in Arkansas: An Interdisciplinary Collaboration
La Porte, Angela M.
Art Education, v63 n5 p78-82 Sep 2010
This article discusses Fundreds in Arkansas, an interactive cooperative in Arkansas to promote and support Mel Chin's nationwide interdisciplinary artwork, Operation Paydirt (The Fundred Dollar Bill Project). The artwork involves communities and educational institutions across the country, healthcare professionals, engineers, urban planners, and expert environmental and biological scientists. It is a national collaborative effort to acquire Congressional support for resolving the lead polluted soil problem within the city of New Orleans and raise national and global awareness of this continued oversight in many cities throughout the world. The Fundred Dollar Bill Project is an excellent example of social justice, giving children a political voice in the form of a donated Fundred drawing, an expression of their concern and empathy for lead-poisoned children.
