Approaches to Teaching Plant Nutrition. Children's Learning in Science Project.
Leeds Univ. (England). Centre for Studies in Science and Mathematics Education.
During the period 1984-1986, over 30 teachers from the Yorkshire (England) region have worked in collaboration with the Children's Learning in Science Project (CLIS) developing and testing teaching schemes in the areas of energy, particle theory, and plant nutrition. The project is based upon the constructivist approach to teaching. This document was developed by a group of teachers and focuses on the teaching of plant nutrition. Plant nutrition was addressed as a topic in this project because it was felt that students would gain an understanding of plant physiology, ecosystem, recycling of matter, and the interdependence of living things. The guide contains plans and pupil worksheets for six lessons organized under three broad topics: (1) probing and testing pupils' ideas; (2) presenting and exploring school science ideas; and (3) application and review of ideas.
