Teaching with Student Math Notes.
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Inc., Reston, VA.
Since 1982, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics has published a student periodical five times a year. Each four-page issue focuses on a single theme, developing it from a simple opening-page activity through more challenging extensions at a higher level of understanding. In this document each four-page issue published from September, 1982, to May, 1986, has been reproduced in full, along with two to four pages of accompanying teacher notes, detailed solutions, suggested extensions, and additional worksheets. The issues deal with topics such as: (1) mathematics and games; (2) visualization; (3) codes and counting; (4) infinity; (5) Egyptian mathematics; (6) spirolaterals; (7) pi; (8) square arrays; (9) duplication probabilities; (10) figurate numbers; (11) networks; (12) residue designs; (13) magic squares; (14) random walks; (15) probability; (16) tessellations; (17) correlation; (18) mathematics on postage stamps; (19) approximation; and (20) proofs without words. The pages of the book are perforated so that they can be easily removed and reproduced for classroom or individual student use. (TW)
