Intended for cerebral palsy specialists, the book emphasizes the contribution that a neuroevolutional approach to therapy can make to habilitation goals of the child with cerebral palsy and applies the basic principles of the Bobath approach to therapy. The first section discusses cerebral palsy as a reflection of disturbed neuro-ontogenisis and traces human neuroevolution from the supine to bipedal stages. Also presented are the rationale for neurotherapy, neurophysiological considerations in developing therapy procedures, three general types of neurotherapy and requirements for developing therapy programs, and results (with case studies) of a two-part study of actual application of neurotherapy. The second section considers the neuroevolution of speech, including bipedal evolution and speech, oroneuromotor evolution and speech, corticalization, dominance, and speech, and theories on the evolution of oral communication.
