Del Mod System, Dover, DE.; Delaware State Dept. of Public Instruction, Dover.
This monograph provides basic behavioral objectives designed for a middle school science curriculum. Emphasis is placed on the study of the living environment for students in grade five. This includes the study of plants, animals, the human body, and the use of the microscope, classification and the scientific method. Objectives for grade six are based on an introduction to the physical sciences. Such concepts or topics as simple machines, astronomy, light, magnetism, energy and rocks and minerals are presented. Grade seven students are given an opportunity to accomplish both behavioral and performance objectives in the field of life science. Emphasis is placed on principles of biology, continuation of life and primitive life. The curriculum includes the study of animals and plants, human biology and marine biology. Earth and space science are studied in grade eight. Objectives centered on astronomy, meteorology, geology and oceanography are emphasized here. The use of measurements, topographic maps, ideas of conservation and principles of chemistry are included. Included in all objectives are prerequisite objectives from elementary grades. In some instances, activities and assessments accompany specific objectives. (EB)
