Evaluating the Implementation of Performance Improvement Training: The E[superscript 3] Process for Success
Larbi-Apau, Josephine A.; Moseley, James L.
Performance Improvement, v47 n8 p40-51 Sep 2008
This article provides a comprehensive approach to careful review and evaluation of the implementation of performance training intervention. It discusses the E[superscript 3] process for success, a basic framework for evaluating the implementation phase of a training program implemented as a broad-based performance improvement strategy. The intent is to use evaluation results and other feedback techniques for continuous improvement, replication, institutionalization, and sustainability of the intervention. The evaluation process has three main implementation phases: E[superscript 1]--evaluating planning of the implementation process; E[superscript 2]--evaluating utilization or transformation of strategies into actions; and E[superscript 3]--evaluating diffusion and adoption of the training intervention. Each phase is specific and differs in application, yet all are in congruence to ensure that the implementation process is successful. Criteria and standards to inform the evaluation process are presented as a checklist. (Contains 1 figure.)
