The proceedings are for two workshops, held in November 1972 and April 1973, in the process of establishing a structured externship in pharmacy. At the first workshop the field instructors were apprised of the goals and techniques of the project, and the policy of the program was developed. At the followup workshop the experiences of the first semester of the program were reviewed, problem areas were discussed, and plans were laid for the future. Appended to the proceedings are: the program guidelines; instruments for evaluating the training site, student performance in community practice, and student performance in hospital practice; checklists of extern experiences in community pharmacy and in hospital pharmacy; a student profile form; field instructor profile forms for community practice and institutional practice; and a summary report of evaluation of field instructors and externship experience. The document represents the working agreement of all participants in the endeavor in the future. (Author/MSE)
