The Relationship between Parenting Styles and Young Adults' Self-Concepts and Evaluations of Parents.
Parish, Thomas S.; McCluskey, James J.
Adolescence, v27 n108 p915-18 Win 1992
Surveyed 123 college students to assess their self-concepts, evaluations of parents, and perceptions of parents' parenting styles. Student self-concept varied directly with perceived level of parental warmth, but did not vary as function of parents' level of restrictiveness. Fathers and mothers were rated more highly if they were perceived as warm and permissive rather than hostile and restrictive. (Author/NB)
