Section I offers an overview of adolescence. Section II discusses aspects of self-esteem, qualities of relationships affecting self-esteem, and improving low self-esteem. Section III describes developmental tasks of adolescents. Section IV differentiates parental encouragement and pressure, and section V discusses aspects of peer relationships and peer pressure. Discipline is the topic of section VI. Sections VII, VIII, and IX, respectively, explore ways of helping the adolescent toward responsibility, fostering a positive attitude toward school and learning, and helping with homework. Section X suggests ways of helping the adolescent having problems at school. Career planning is discussed in section XI. (RH)
