Peer Assessments in Physical Education
Johnson, Randall
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (JOPERD), v75 n8 p33 Oct 2004
Peer assessments are recommended for overcoming the difficulties that teachers have with providing individual feedback and assessing student progress in physical education classes. A peer assessment can be used as a learning task (in a progression) or a formative assessment. A peer assessment is a variation of peer teaching, an instructional format in which students assist one another after receiving instruction from the teacher. The purpose of this article is to provide a rationale for the use of peer assessments, suggest strategies for developing a peer assessment rubric handout, and recommend a teaching methodology for implementing peer assessment activities during physical education classes.
