Part I, which traces the development of feeding, considers in detail normal development and deviations in the following areas: social and behavioral development, intellectual development, physical development, nutrition, reflex development, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and oral motor skills. Part II describes approaches to assessment of social/behavioral, physical, nutritional, reflex and gross motor, fine motor, and oral motor development. The final part focuses on remediation of feeding problems, with comments about behavior problems, the effects of drugs on diet, nutrition and diet therapy, motor skills and reflex development (including the role of proper positioning), and oral motor skills. Sample case studies of children with hypertension/obesity, phenylketonuria, and physical disorders are presented to illustrate a team approach involving individual service plans and objectives.
