Equality of Fitness Centers
Swoyer, Jesse O.
Exceptional Parent, v38 n6 p30-31 Jun 2008
The author, who has been a personal trainer for the past ten years, recently realized that all fitness centers are not equal. In February, he was able to participate in the grand opening of the Center for Independent Living of Central PA (CILCP), a fitness center that is designed to accommodate persons with disabilities living in the Central Pennsylvania region. Whether using a facility specifically designed for people with disabilities, such as the one at CILCP, or considering a fitness center open to the general public, there are some important considerations that individuals with disabilities should keep in mind before participating in a physical fitness routine. The author discusses these considerations.
