Infants and Toddlers: Sharing Stories with Infants and Toddlers
Honig, Alice Sterling
Early Childhood Today, v19 n2 p24-26 Oct 2004
New brain research reveals that synapses, the connections between neurons, are twice as plentiful at 24 months as in adulthood. Reading to babies helps "wire in" those synapses so that babies get an early intellectual boost. This article discusses early reading for babies as it promotes early literacy. Sharing picture books is a wonderful way to begin a child's lifelong love of books and reading. The activities that promote love of books for infants and toddlers are presented. This article provides ways for parents in partnership with the child's teachers to promote preliteracy opportunities for their child.
