Elternbriefe des Arbeitskreises Neue Erziehung (The Letters for Parents of the "Arbeitskreis Neue Erziehung").
Arbeitskreis Neue Erziehung, Berlin (Germany).
Recognizing that first time parents often have more questions than answers about child rearing, youth welfare services in the Federal Republic of Germany have been sending a series of newsletters since 1975 to all first time parents from the time of the child's birth to their child's eighth birthday. A board of representatives from the youth welfare services is responsible for supervising the newsletters' content and their periodic revision. This document comprises an entire set of the 46 newsletters, dated between 1997 and 1999. Their purpose is to provide a developmental diary for parents, to provide support to help parents prevent educational problems, and to develop a happy family life. The newsletters are sent in pedagogically justified intervals: monthly from birth to 1 year, bimonthly from 1 year to 2 years, quarterly from 3 to 5 years, bimonthly from 5 to 6 years, and quarterly from 6 to 8 years. Each newsletter covers several different topics related to experiences relevant for the child's age and to responds to questions parents may have. Topics covered in the newsletter include the following: (1) why babies cry; (2) TV for 3-year-olds; (3) growing up bilingual; (4) eating with joy and without stress; (5) if another baby arrives; (6) if parents separate; (7) games and outings for the whole family; and (8) no need for spanking.
