Face to Face. Knowsley Counselling and Guidance Network.
Further Education Unit, London (England).
A project was established in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, England, to test the concept of the networking of guidance agencies to serve young people in the transition from school to work. During the first of four phases of the project, tangible evidence of the network appeared in the form of a conference and a benefits booklet. During the second phase, project newsletters were published, an interagency counseling course was offered, and a management committee was formed and then restructured. The third phase was marked by the reformation of the management committee, publication of more newsletters, and more publicity activities. The final phase saw the development of an updated directory of helping agencies and a summative evaluation. Project outcomes included two residential training weekends, publication of six newsletters, establishment of a directory of guidance agencies, and support of eight interagency projects. Significant parallels were found between the concept of a guidance network propounded by the Unit for the Development of Adult Continuing Education and that promoted by the Knowsley project. (YLB)
