The Design and Implementation of a Summer Care Program for School Age Children of Working Parents.
Volpini, Joyce
An elementary school administrator designed and implemented a 12-week summer program for school-age children that provided educational, recreational, and cultural opportunities. Each week of activities centered on a specific theme. Recreational opportunities included sports activities, outdoor games, organized indoor games, free play, swimming, bowling, and arts and crafts. Educational situations allowed children to learn about mathematics, language arts, music, and the Bible. Children were given opportunities to learn about other cultures and to explore their own heritage. Field trips were encouraged. Outcome data were positive and program goals were met. Related materials, such as publicity, correspondence, and a parent questionnaire, are appended. (RH)
