This volume contains 19 scholarly essays on current research in representative areas of the field of psychology. Topics of the essays include the following: relations between psychology and other sciences, origins of psychology as a science, human memory, cross-cultural cognitive psychology, biology of motivation, organizational behavior, social and cultural influences on psychopathology, psychology of group processes, counseling psychology, and individual differences in cognitive abilities. Because 1979 is considered to be the centenary of psychology's emergence as a separate discipline, many of the essays for this volume were invited from senior psychologists who have the perspective of long involvement with a field of research. Included among the authors are Jean Piaget, John B. Carroll, Conrad Mueller, and M. Frank. Most of the authors are professors and researchers at universities in the United States. The volume concludes with author and subject indexes, a cumulative index of chapter titles and authors for volumes 26-30, and a list of chapter titles planned for volume 31 in 1980. (AV)
