A European Vision for Adult Education
Waddington, Sue; Tuckett, Alan; Boucher, Fiona
Adults Learning, v24 n2 p42-43 Win 2012
The National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) is the UK national coordinator for the European Agenda for Adult Learning, with the challenge of creating a coherent message across the four countries to inform European cooperation on adult learning. To start the debate, the journal staff asked Sue Waddington, Alan Tuckett, and Fiona Boucher why the UK needs a European vision for adult education. Waddington stresses that having a European perspective enables the people to learn from each other and identify how they can pursue their shared goals for adult learners, potential learners, and adult education organisations. Tuckett emphasizes that adult education has been on the back foot, while Boucher believes that having a European vision is a logical step to develop common set of principles.
