Influence of Effective Communication by Surgery Students on Their Oral Examination Scores.
Rowland-Morin, Pamela A.; And Others
Academic Medicine, v66 n3 p169-71 Mar 1991
Clinical surgery faculty (n=78) evaluated videotaped simulated surgery student oral examinations. Results showed that regardless of the content of students' responses, evaluators were strongly influenced by how well students communicated. Evaluators preferred a moderate response rate and direct eye contact over a slower response rate and indirect eye contact in every category except decision making. (Author/DB)
