This study focused on assessing the levels of job satisfaction among peer evaluators in a large, metropolitan public K-12 school district in Florida. Peer evaluators were defined as former classroom teachers with five or more years of teaching experience who observe and evaluate teachers with two or more years of teaching experience. Seventy-eight peer evaluators participated in a quantitative study by completing a six-item demographical questionnaire and the Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS). The study measured peer evaluators' levels of satisfaction based on demographical characteristics, including age, educational levels, and gender. The findings suggested that no significant differences were evident for satisfaction levels and age, education, or gender. Next, the study assessed the factors (ie: pay, supervision, or operating conditions) that influence job satisfaction. The results indicated that peer evaluators report higher levels of satisfaction for supervision than for compensation. Finally, the study measured the levels of job satisfaction between peer evaluators with different years of peer evaluating experience. The findings indicated that peer evaluators with more evaluating experience reported lower levels of satisfaction for the supervision subscale. Future research should explore potential role conflicts peer evaluators experience. Districts might consider reviewing their practices for recruiting and hiring peer evaluators.
