Stratford Studios Proudly Liberates Romeo & Juliet [CD-ROM].
This CD-ROM product is an interactive supplement to Shakespeare's text of "Romeo and Juliet." It contains an interactive cast of characters and the entire script of the play with an accessible audio performance. Other features include: "Dr. Wacko"--a feature that calls the student's attention to the more subtle nuances of the plot by asking questions, suggesting motivations, and introducing pertinent literary themes; "Screening Room"--where teen critics review the plot using age-appropriate language; "Myrna, the Director"--who provides a plot summary for every scene; and "Lester, the Jester"--who serves as an interactive help function. The program also includes games, which can serve as practice or an alternative to quizzes and tests, and studios, were students can use higher level thinking skills to create original casts and costumes and write a sequel to the play. The program helps students build skills in creative writing, reading comprehension, character analysis, and literary interpretation. It also teaches and tests knowledge of poetic devices, vocabulary, cultural context, characterization, and key plot issues. The teaching guide describes the program and provides a 20-day curriculum guide with goals and activities. Teacher resources include a compilation of Dr. Wacko's questions, arranged by act and scene; vocabulary terms listed by act; and a list of suggested projects and writing assignments. (SWC)
