25 Low-Cost Biology Investigations.
Beller, Joel
This book is a compilation of biology labs that are safe, simple, dependable, economical, and diverse. Some of the 25 investigations contained within this book involve organisms that are free for the taking and returned to the environment unharmed following the investigations. Students gain experience in making observations, forming hypotheses, designing experiments, interpreting data, and communicating results and conclusions. The experiments are organized into broad sections: (1) Dandelions; (2) Human Behavior; (3) Human Perspiration; (4) Earthworms; (5) Oil Spills; (6) Respiration; (7) Spiders; and (8) Vinegar Eels. The investigations are a mix of the cookbook approach and open-ended inquiry and each is accompanied by teacher resource notes. Topics include muscle strength, vision and balance, the sense of taste, oxygen consumption of crickets and germinating seeds, and organism response to light and gravity. (DDR)
