Weekly Quizzing Really Works!: Online Software Makes It Easy
Waite, Jerry
Tech Directions, v66 n7 p16-21 Feb 2007
Frequent quizzing prods students to keep up with course work--and keeps them on their toes. The Internet offers a great tool for frequent quizzing. In this article, the author shares his experience quizzing his students weekly using his university's online learning system, WebCT, in the hope that this experience will prove useful to other educators. In his opinion, the qualitative value of the weekly online quizzes overrides any quantitative benefit that they might provide. Being able to obtain quick feedback on student understanding, while enticing students to study consistently each week, strikes him as very favorable outcomes. In addition, the apparent student preference for weekly quizzes and improved student attitudes regarding examinations offer additional advantages. He recommends that teachers at the middle and high school levels try "online" quizzing as well. (Contains 3 figures and 3 tables.)
