Language of Peace in the Peaceful Classroom
Stomfay-Stitz, Aline; Wheeler, Edyth
Childhood Education, v82 n5 p292-F Ann 2006
For the past 30 years, peace educators have drawn attention to the vital role of language--the caring, creative words that describe and enhance peace. The language of peace has evolved through several stages of growth and complexity. It also offers a heritage of caring and acceptance for all children who enter through educators' classroom doors. This caring classroom offers an understanding, tolerant, and accepting environment that reflects the roots of empathy and knowledge of emotions encountered in facing potential violence and resolving conflicts.
