Philosophy for Welders: Colleges Offer Innovative Humanities Curricula for Liberal Arts and Career Track Students Alike

Does America needs more welders and fewer philosophers? Community college humanities professors and administrators say it benefits all students, whether liberal arts or career track, to take courses in philosophy, history, political science, language arts, and other liberal arts subjects. And they're developing innovative humanities curricula to better engage students and make their subjects more relevant to engineering and business majors as well as those in school to learn a trade. Learning the humanities not only develops people into better citizens, educators at two-year schools say, but the improved ability to read, write, think, use their imaginations, understand other cultures and draw lessons from history makes students into better employees, as well.
