The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) functions within the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (Unesco) to promote scientific investigation into the nature and resources of the world's oceans. Summarized in this report are discussions that took place during the thirteenth session of the IOC Assembly. Major topic areas addressed included: ocean sciences; ocean services; training, education, and mutual assistance in marine sciences; implications for the IOC of development in international affairs; and other areas. Among the supporting materials provided in appendices are: (1) the program agenda; (2) text of the 20 adopted resolutions; (3) the three keynote speeches; (4) lists of IOC member states, officers of the Commission, and state-member representatives on the executive council (as of March 25, 1985); (5) abstracts of the 1985 Aton Bruun memorial lectures; and (6) procedures for the review of past resolutions.
